A gunshot occurred at a Pop Warner football game in the parking lot of a Colorado school, killing one person.
According to various reports, a brawl broke out at a youth football game at Atlas Preparatory School in Colorado Springs at about 2:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.
The fight appears to have developed into a fatality.
The Denver Gazette said that youth games were scheduled on the field from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., citing the Pikes Peak Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer website.
The victim was only named as a 29-year-old man, according to reports.
Brittney Stroh, the school’s CEO, stated in a Facebook post that the school’s fields and facilities are rented out by “external groups” on weekends, acknowledging an event occurred on their property.
“Today, at one of those games sponsored by an external group, a fight broke out, resulting in the death of one individual. While this occurred on Atlas’s property, neither Atlas nor any of its students were involved or impacted. We extend our condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragedy.
“The Colorado Springs Police Department is addressing this situation. This is a continuing investigation. We will provide an update here if we receive any further information regarding our Atlas families.”
The Pop Warner League stated that the incident was “not related to our teams.”
“[The incident] involved two individuals with prior personal issues who do not have children in our league and do not participate in any coaching or volunteer roles,” the league said in a statement, as reported by KOAA in Colorado.
“The safety of our athletes and their families is our top priority, and we are taking further precautions to assure their continued safety in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families at this difficult moment.”
According to a statement sent to Fox News Digital by Colorado Springs police, no suspects are in custody.
