Pennsylvania Government Declares Snow Day, Shuts Down Offices on Monday

Employees under the governor’s jurisdiction who physically report to work in the following buildings are authorized a full-day, weather-related closing on Monday, Jan. 6, at the following offices:

  • Capitol Complex
  • Harrisburg Area
  • Philadelphia Office Buildings (801 Market St. and 801 Arch St.)
  • Pittsburgh Office Buildings (11 Stanwix St, 301 Fifth Ave., 411 Seventh Ave.),
  • Reading State Office Building

Per a letter sent out Sunday night, this closing, and any field office closings, are subject to the provisions of Management Directive 530.17, Partial and Full-Day Closings of State Offices, according

  • Essential employees assigned to 24/7 facilities and other critical operations should continue to follow specific guidance from their agency supervisory staff with the goal of maintaining operations.

  • All employees who are authorized and equipped to telework under a telework agreement (including full-time and part-time telework arrangements) are required to work or use leave, unless otherwise authorized by the Office of Administration, in accordance with Management Directive 530.17.
  • Teleworkers are responsible for ensuring that all equipment and accessories needed to perform assigned duties are in their possession when inclement weather is forecasted.

Unless specifically directed otherwise by their supervisory chain-of-command, teleworkers are expected to work from their alternate worksite during their full, regularly scheduled work shift, (including alternate work schedules), even if they were scheduled to physically report to their headquarters location or another work site. Employee questions should be directed to their agency supervisory staff or HR office.

Paid office closing (POC) absences must be entered for non-essential employees who work overtime or out-of-class within the same week of the office closing if the employee is eligible for payment during an office closing in accordance with Management Directive 530.17.

As a reminder, agency management retains the right to designate employees as essential or non-essential, as needed, based on ongoing operational needs.
