People in Illinois Are Buying More Guns Because the State is Making Gun Rules Stricter

0

Ill.— A new report says that even though Illinois made gun rules stricter last year, gun sales went up there.

A report from the protection company Safehome says that from 2022 to 2023, gun sales went up by about 5%. It is thought that around 505,000 guns were sold during that time.

Governor JB Pritzker signed the Protect Illinois Communities Act into law in January 2023. This law banned assault guns and high-capacity magazines.

The business said the information comes from the FBI’s national system for quick criminal background checks.

There were also more gun sales in North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Florida. Because of a new law, people in North Carolina no longer need a pass to buy. Sales went up 112%.
