Phoenix and Every Other City in the U.S. Were Cooler Than This Town in Southern California in July
In July, California was just barely the hottest place in the United States, beating out Arizona for the title.
The Climate Office at Arizona State University said that last month Needles, which is on Route 66 and on the border between two states, was the warmest place in the country.
The average temperature in Needles from June 30 to July 30 was 103.2 degrees, which earned it that honor.
“The record has been broken by Needles, who is now the hottest city in the United States every month,” the climate office said on X, which used to be Twitter.
At an average of 101.1 degrees, Phoenix wasn’t too far behind.
These are the two hottest towns in the United States.
With about 1.61 million people, Phoenix is the fifth-most populous city in the county. Needles, on the other hand, has a little less than 5,000 permanent people, even though it’s a major traffic hub on Interstate 40 and spans the Colorado River.
Also in July, it was more than 100 degrees in Blythe and Palm Springs, California.
