Police Say It’s a Disturbing Trend That a Mother Was Charged With Murder After Her Twin 3-year-old Boys Died From Being Exposed to Fentanyl

Police say that a mother’s twin sons died after being introduced to drugs that were laced with fentanyl. The mother was charged with murder.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office says Jestice James, 22, of Canoga Park, California, was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of child abuse after her three-year-old sons Josiah and Jestine died within days of being introduced to fentanyl.

On July 11, officials say, paramedics went to the home in Canoga Park and tried to revive the twins. The DA’s office says that Josiah died that day and Jestine died two days later.

James is being held in a Los Angeles County jail on a $4 million bond right now. It’s not clear right now if she has made a plea or hired a lawyer.

In a statement, District Attorney George Gascón said, “These boys are said to have come into contact with fentanyl, an opioid that has caused a lot of damage in our communities.” “This terrible event is part of a disturbing trend in which babies and young children are becoming more and more victims of the opioid crisis.” It’s impossible to say enough about how dangerous fentanyl is, and it is our job to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Anyone who puts kids in danger by giving them these drugs will be held responsible by my office.

A news conference was held by KTLA where the twins’ godmother spoke.

Regina Holmes is said to have said, “This is hard.” “This is tough for the family, and we want more people to know about fentanyl.”
