Pregnant Teen’s Body Was Found in the Woods. Her Ex-boyfriend is Now Being Charged With Killing Her
For killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in Loganville, Ga., a man has been charged, the Gwinnett County Police said in a news release on July 23.
Police said in their first statement on July 17 that Mia Campos’s body was found “in a wooded area just off the roadway” by her family early in the morning of July 15.
Following six days, on July 17, her ex-boyfriend and the father of the unborn child, Jesus Monroy, 20, was charged with giving police fake information. Court papers seen by PEOPLE show that on July 23, the detectives in charge of the case charged Monroy with murder, felony murder, feticide, and aggravated assault.
After hearing from Campos’ family that they couldn’t find her after she left home on July 14, they arrested him. Police say Campos was lulled “to the entrance of her neighborhood” and then her body was dumped in the woods. People got a copy of her arrest order, which says she died of suffocation.
The family used a cell phone app to find her body after she went missing.
“Giving false statements to a police officer,” was what the police said about Monroy when they nabbed him on July 17.
As of Thursday, July 25, the court records do not have any details about Monroy’s plea. The Gwinnett County Police have also not said what the reason was. People asked his lawyer, Brandon Delfunt, for a reply.
Miriam Zárate, Campos’ mother, told 11 Alive on July 17 that the family found the teen a few minutes from their house. Zarate said that Campos’s body was swollen, cold, and black when her family found her, and her hand was on her stomach.
Ed Campos, the victim’s father, told Atlanta News First, “I found my daughter lying face-down.” “It was tough.” Because of her lips and nose, I knew something was wrong.
11 Alive says Mia was the youngest of five children. And she was going to have her first child this September. She had already named him Sebastian.
The Campos family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral and a proper grave for her and her child.
