Salt Lake City Firefighter in Critical Condition Following Wrong-way Collision on I-15
A Salt Lake City firefighter remains in critical condition following a fatal wrong-way incident on Interstate 15 in Millard County last week.
Andy Maxwell was in a Dodge truck with three youths early on October 17 when a Toyota Corolla heading southbound in the northbound lanes collided with the truck near the I-70 interchange.
Maxwell has had three operations since the event, according to a GoFundMe page set up to aid with his medical expenditures.
“Andy is more than just a firefighter and EMS worker – he’s a hero,” the fundraiser page stated. “For more than 20 years, he’s sprinted toward danger as others fled, always willing to risk his life to save others.
“But now, the man who has dedicated his life to protecting and caring for others is the one in need of help.” The Salt Lake City Fire Department posted a social media message with a link to the GoFundMe page, hoping that others may notice his family’s plea and assist the father of three young children.
“Engineer Maxwell has dedicated his career to helping others through their toughest moments, and now he needs our help.”
One of the teenagers in Maxwell’s truck died, as did the 55-year-old driver of the Toyota.
