Serial Murderer Marceline Harvey Now Faces a Third Trial, After Two Releases from Prison!
CNS News– In a chilling narrative that harkens back to the grim days of New York City’s past, Marceline Harvey, a convicted murderer, stands at the precipice of her third trial. The city, still haunted by the terror inflicted by the Son of Sam in the mid-1970s, finds itself grappling with the legacy of another killer who began her spree a decade earlier.
Harvey, previously known as Harvey Marcelin and identifying as transgender, has a history marred by violence and death, having been convicted of murder on two separate occasions only to be released each time. The saga of Harvey’s crimes extends over nearly six decades, with her first conviction dating back to 1963 when she fatally shot her girlfriend in Manhattan.
Despite being sentenced to life, Harvey was released on parole in May 1984. Barely a year later, Harvey’s violent tendencies resurfaced when she stabbed another girlfriend and dismembered her body, with parts discovered in Central Park. Each release from prison seemingly provided Harvey with the opportunity to re-offend, casting a long shadow over the criminal justice system’s ability to protect the public from known violent offenders.

March 2022 marked a turning point when the 83-year-old was apprehended in connection with the gruesome discovery of Susan Leyden’s torso in a Brooklyn shopping cart. The arrest followed the release of a disturbing video showing Harvey nonchalantly riding a scooter through a store, allegedly with Leyden’s dismembered leg beneath her.
A subsequent search of Harvey’s apartment unearthed a human head and an electric saw, painting a macabre picture of the events leading to Leyden’s death. Leyden was last seen alive entering Harvey’s apartment, with surveillance footage capturing Harvey exiting with a suspicious trash bag believed to contain Leyden’s remains.
As Harvey awaits her trial set for March 1, 2024, the community and law enforcement reflect on the harrowing journey to bring her to justice. Former NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce’s remarks underscore the gravity of the situation, as he recounts the discovery of the victim’s remains and Harvey’s subsequent confession.

The dichotomy of Harvey’s personality, as described in her jailhouse interview, offers a glimpse into the troubled mind of a serial killer who attributes her violent acts to her “masculine side.” The case of Marceline Harvey not only reopens old wounds for a city that has seen its share of serial killers but also raises critical questions about the effectiveness of the parole system and the challenges of dealing with offenders with a history of violent crimes.
