Six People Are Hurt When a Fair Ride Flips Over at a Washington State Fourth of July Party
Six people were hurt Wednesday night in Washington state when a ride at an Independence Day fair flipped over.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the city of Oak Harbor, which is about 90 miles north of Seattle, said that the six people who were hurt were treated at the scene.
Magic Aguilar, a city representative, said she didn’t know how many people were on the ride, which she called “the swings.” The ride had passed state and city checks, and she said that it had tipped over because of a problem with how it was set up.
The city said that the ride was quickly locked down and turned off, and the fair would be closed for the night.
Pictures on the Oak Harbor Facebook page seem to show a moving swing ride that is broken and lying on its side.
The fair was closed for the rest of the holiday weekend, according to Mayor Ronnie Wright on Thursday.
Wright said in a statement, “Making sure the safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority.” “We carefully thought about this and talked to police and city officials about it. We decided that this was the best way to protect our community.”
The city said it would work closely with the vendor to do full checks on Thursday to find out what went wrong with the ride and stop it from happening again.
“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all of our residents and visitors,” Oak Harbor Police Chief Tony Slowik said in the city’s statement. “The most important thing for us right now is to fully investigate what happened and do everything we can to keep safety at the highest level.”
