U.S. News & World Report and Stacker have named a number of Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) schools as some of the best in Wisconsin. These scores looked at more than 100,000 schools across the country using data from state tests and socioeconomic factors.
One of the best 25 elementary schools in Wisconsin was Shorewood Hills Elementary, which came in at number five. From the state report card, it was also in the top 10. Randall Elementary and Van Hise Elementary, which came in at 13th and 24th, were also on the list.
The middle and high schools in MMSD also made the list of the top 25. Based on how well students did on state tests, how many graduated, and how ready they were for high school, middle schools were ranked. The seventh best school in the state was Hamilton Middle School.
High schools were ranked by how well their students did on state tests, on tests at the college level, and on how many of them graduated. There were 25 high schools in Wisconsin. West High School was ranked 22nd, and Memorial High School was ranked 25th. Stacker looked at the 2023 Niche rankings and found that Memorial High School was ranked ninth in Wisconsin and West High School was ranked seventh.
There were four big high schools in the district this year: East, La Follette, Memorial, and West. All of them got “exceeds expectations” on their state report cards. Based on data from the previous year, the Department of Public Instruction makes these yearly report cards. They look at four main areas: success, closing gaps, growth, and student progress.
