South Carolina airports have been given more than $5.7 million in Airport Improvement Program funds by the Federal Aviation Administration.

There are 320 grants worth $636 million going to 46 states and American Samoa to improve airport facilities. This money is part of that money. The money was given by the government as part of the fourth round of funding for the 2024 Airport Improvement Program.

Spartanburg Downtown Memorial/Simpson Field in Spartanburg will get $150,000 to fix up an apron, and Marlboro County Jetport – H.E. Avent Field in Bennettsville will get $200,000 to fix up a runway.

More than $1.7 million was given to Charleston AFB/International in Charleston to fix up passenger boarding bridges. This was the biggest haul.

FAA Associate Administrator for Airports Shannetta R. Griffin said, “This $636 million investment helps airports across the Nation fix and improve critical infrastructure to make the airport system the safest and most efficient in the world.”

This is the latest government tax money to come into the Palmetto State for airport projects.

The government gave four airports in South Carolina more than $6.1 million in funding as part of the third round of the 2024 Airport Improvement Program. This was announced last month. Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer was given the biggest award for a South Carolina airport in that group. It was given almost $5.6 million to build a runway.

Ports in Palmetto State did not get any money in the first two rounds of 2024 funding, which were released in June.
