Suspect Killed, Indiana Police Officer Critically Injured in Iroquois County Shooting

In Iroquois County on Sunday, a shootout between police officers and a suspect left one officer seriously injured and the other dead.

As per the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Brandon Schrieber was helping the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office with a call on Sunday night when he was shot.

The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department was chasing the suspect, according to the Illinois State Police. During the chase, the suspect was thought to have had a victim in their car.

The chase went into Indiana, and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office offered help, according to the ISP.

In the end, the chase went back to Illinois, and cops say the suspect crashed in Sheldon. The suspect got out of their car and started shooting at cops. Andy Roselius, 37, of Clifton was recognized as the suspect and was shot and killed in that exchange of gunfire. Schrieber was also hit.

According to the police, Schrieber was taken to a hospital in nearby Watseka and then flown to another facility in Urbana. It says that he is still in serious condition as of Monday afternoon.

A press statement says that the Illinois State Police are in charge of the investigation into the “use of force” part of the case.
