Suspect Tyler Robinson Arrested in Charlie Kirk Killing: Details Emerge on Shooting and Investigation
Utah County, UT – Authorities have arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, as the suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University. The arrest was confirmed Friday morning by Utah Governor Spencer Cox.
The suspect reportedly confessed to his father before FBI and U.S. Marshals took him into custody late Thursday night. Robinson faces multiple serious charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm. Formal charges are expected to be filed by Tuesday, according to the Utah County Attorney’s Office.
How the Arrest Unfolded
Robinson, a resident of southern Utah, confessed to the crime after his father recognized him from photos released by law enforcement. According to federal law enforcement sources, after the father confronted Robinson, he was reluctant to turn himself in, even expressing a desire to die by suicide instead.
“The suspect’s family did the right thing by bringing him to law enforcement,” said Governor Cox.
With encouragement from a family youth pastor, who is also a court security officer, the U.S. Marshals Service was contacted and quickly detained Robinson. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the FBI took Robinson into custody late Thursday night.
Governor Cox stated there is currently no evidence to suggest that Robinson acted with accomplices or that further arrests are anticipated.

The Fatal Shooting at Utah Valley University
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot while participating in one of his signature “Prove Me Wrong” debates on Wednesday afternoon at Utah Valley University. The event was part of Turning Point USA’s The American Comeback Tour and had over 3,000 attendees.
Witnesses reported Kirk had just begun debating an audience member about gun violence when a single shot was fired, striking Kirk in the neck. The shot is believed to have come from the Losee Center for Student Success building’s roof. After firing, the shooter escaped by jumping off the building and fleeing into a nearby neighborhood.
Investigation and Evidence Details
Law enforcement recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls detailed that the gun was found wrapped in a dark towel in a wooded area near where the suspect fled.
Governor Cox shared that investigators discovered bullet casings with unusual inscriptions, including the fired casing engraved with, “Notices bulges OwO what’s this?” Other casings bore phrases such as “Hey fascist, catch!” and lines referencing the Italian partisan song, “Bella Ciao.” Cox declined to interpret the meaning of these engravings.
