Teen from Tennessee Charged After High-Speed Chase Spanning Five Alabama Counties
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says that a teen from Tennessee is facing a felony charge after a chase with police that started near Gadsden and finished in Tuscaloosa County on Saturday morning.
The driver led cops on a chase that went through five counties and involved many other police departments.
At about 7:30 a.m., police tried to stop a 2023 Nissan Armada in Centre, Alabama. Centre is a city in Cherokee County in the northeast of the state.
Police followed the car south on U.S. 411 before the driver turned onto Interstate 59 when the driver didn’t stop. Troopers said the driver then hit two cars owned by regular people in Jefferson County.
At 77 miles, in Tuscaloosa County, the chase stopped when the Armada went off the road when the driver tried to get off of Interstate 59. During its journey, the Armada hit a house and a fence.
A 15-year-old from New Market, Tennessee, was recognized as the Armada’s driver. He was caught by troopers after trying to escape on foot.
He or she was charged with felony fleeing and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center.
A news statement from ALEA says that no one was hurt during the chase and that no force was used to catch the driver.
