A 37-year-old Tennessee man has been charged with making alleged social media threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama, according to a news statement from the Department of Justice.
Kyl Alton Hall was charged on Tuesday with two counts of threatening a serving president or vice president and one count of threatening a past president. According to the DOJ, each charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Authorities believe the threats began on the social networking platform X. The Memphis-area guy allegedly vowed to “kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane” carrying Biden. He also vowed to kill Harris and Obama.
The matter was investigated by the United States Secret Service, and it will be prosecuted by the national security and civil rights unit of the local United States Attorney’s Office.
A Secret Service representative did not immediately return a request for comment.
The allegations were filed the same week that all three officials — Biden, Harris, and Obama — appeared in Chicago to speak at the Democratic National Convention, where Harris accepted her party’s presidential nomination.
