Texas Infant, Just 11 Months Old, Dies After Sibling Accidentally Fires Gun in Car: Police Investigate Homicide
When Texas police arrived, they found an infant with a bullet wound in the backseat of a car. Two little children, aged two and three, were in the vehicle beside him.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirms to PEOPLE that Khamari Khols Lang, a child just shy of 11 months old, has died.
At 12:14 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, San Antonio police were summoned to 7400 Merton Minter Boulevard, the address of a medical facility parking lot, in response to a report of an injured kid. ”
At some point, one of the children gained access to the trunk where a loaded long gun was being stored and pulled the trigger, causing the gun to go off,” which killed Khamari, police said in their preliminary incident report, which PEOPLE received.
Khamari was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:28 p.m. that day, according to officials.
The medical examiner’s office says the infant’s cause and manner of death are still unknown.
Police, who have classified the case as a homicide, said their investigation is ongoing.
No arrests had occurred as of Tuesday morning.
