Texas Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Decapitating Wife of 3 Months After Guilty Plea
Following his guilty plea to killing his wife in 2023, a man from Texas was given 40 years in jail.
Waller County Criminal District Attorney Sean G. Whittmore announced on July 31 that Jared James Dicus had accepted a plea deal for the murder of his wife Anggy Diaz.
They had only been married for three months when Diaz’s in-laws found the 21-year-old’s body in their home, which they allegedly owned. The body had been cut up.
When the news came out at the time, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said that Discus’s dad was the one who “immediately called” the police when he saw Diaz’s body. Discus is said to have admitted to killing her while cops were questioning him.
For 40 years, Dicus will be locked up by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, according to a news statement from Whittmore.
There were worries about Dicus’ mental health during the pre-trial part of the case. But a test ordered by the court showed he was mentally fit to stand trial.
According to the news release, Dicus gave up his right to challenge the verdict, the sentence, and any possible defense against the prosecution. This included trying to use insanity as a defense at a later date.
Before the plea deal was sealed, the terms were told to Diaz’s family.
In 2043, Dicus will be able to get out of jail. What the district attorney does say, though, is that “being eligible for parole is not the same thing as being granted parole.”
At the time of Diaz’s death, Guidry said that cops had been to the home of the ex-couple before, but there had been “nothing to this effect and to this level of violence.”
He also said that the crime would have long-term effects on both families.
“That’s the world we live in now is all you can say.” It’s an awful scene. “It will change both sides of these families, the suspects’ and the victims’,” Guidry said.
“That looks awful.” It’s a terrible act. He went on, “Hopefully, everything works out the best way it can at this point.”
Several news sources said that Diaz’s head had been cut off.
Guidry told the press last year that when police arrived, they found “a portion of a body, dismembered, and a residence that was covered in blood.”
“Domestic violence is not okay in Waller County,” the district attorney said Wednesday.
Whittmore said Wednesday, “Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered. We will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the abusers that here, we fight for our victims.” “The DA’s office also wants to thank the Waller County Sheriff’s Office for their thorough investigation and service to the person who was killed and the people of Waller County.”
