Authorities in South Carolina say they think they have found the body of a man from Massachusetts who went missing over a week ago while on vacation with his family on Hilton Head Island. The man was considered dangerous.
A report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says that Stanley Kotowski, 60, has not been seen since picking up his family from their holiday rental in Sea Pines on the morning of August 16.
Police in Beaufort County say they found the body of a guy they think is Kotowski under a house in Sea Pines on Monday.
They went to the house around 11:30 a.m. ET Monday “in connection to suspicious activity,” and the body was found about four hours later, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said that on Tuesday, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office will do an autopsy to find out how the person died and to identify the body.
“We appreciate the assistance provided by other agencies, Sea Pines Security, and the community in the search for Mr. Kotowski,” said the sheriff’s office.
Master Sergeant Daniel Allen of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says Kotowski’s family reported him missing about two hours after the last time they saw him. He was marked as dangerous because of his mental state, the fact that he has been missing for a long time, and the fact that he was last seen on a Ring camera without shoes on, Allen said.
The police report says Jackie Kotowski told them that her husband “thinks Sea Pines is a ‘ set up’ and has a conspiracy that the people here are out to get him.” “Several statements of people at this place ‘watching him,'” she said, the incident report said.
He was having anxiety problems before he went missing, his family told WJCL, an ABC station in Savannah, Georgia, after he went missing
“For about a month, he couldn’t sleep at all.” “This is pretty much brand-new,” Jackie Kotowski, his wife, told WJCL. The man does not have dementia. As the days went on, his nervousness got worse and worse. He began to feel suspicious and thought someone was following him.
Police in Beaufort County say he didn’t take any personal things with him when he left the rental, like his phone or wallet.
