The Brave Dog That Warned the Family of a House Fire in Morrison Was Found Dead Days Later

DENVER — In Morrison, a family was sleeping when their dog, Cuddles, woke them up to tell them there was a fire inside. FOX31 has learned that the Chihuahua was found dead inside the destroyed home days after the family got out safely.

On Wednesday morning, West Metro Fire Rescue was called to a house fire that they thought began on the back porch and then spread inside. The floor in the family room was burned through, and the first and second floors got a lot of damage. Even a house next door was exposed to the heat.

The family got away from the fire, but Cuddles was nowhere to be found when it was over.

The crews said they looked through the house several times but couldn’t find Cuddles. In the meantime, Cuddles’ neighbors thought she might have run away and put out a dog bed and food close. The West Metro firemen also put up pictures of the dog in the hopes that someone would find her.

FOX31’s Greg Nieto said that family and friends said Cuddles was found dead inside the house after being looked for for almost three days.

Nieto said that her family’s lives were saved by Cuddles because she told them about the fire and helped them get out of there in time.

The reason for the fire was still being looked into by West Metro Fire on Wednesday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family get back on their feet after the fire and the death of their dog.
