The Closure of a Cold Case: Serial Killer’s Confession Sheds Light on 1980 Murder!

0

CNS NewsIn a surprising turn of events, convicted serial killer Billy Mansfield has confessed to the 1980 murder of Carol Ann Barrett, an 18-year-old high school student from Zanesville, Ohio, during her spring break in Florida.

This confession adds a chilling chapter to Mansfield’s criminal record, already burdened with life sentences for five other murders. In March 1980, Barrett was visiting Daytona Beach with friends when a horrifying encounter at their motel led to her abduction and eventual murder.

Found dead in a ditch along Interstate 95, her case remained unsolved for decades, with only a sketch of the suspect and a partial palm print as leads. Mansfield, now 64, became a suspect in 2022, leading to his confession. Despite the gravity of this new confession, authorities have decided not to prosecute him for Barrett’s murder, given his current life sentence.
