The Head of the DNC Says the Party is Aiming for Places Like Florida and North Carolina

On Sunday, Jaime Harrison, Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said that the excitement about Vice President Harris’s campaign has made Florida and North Carolina competitive for the November election. This is because Democrats want to reach more people.

Harrison said on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” show, “I have never seen this kind of energy, this kind of organizing, bottom-up organizing, in all the years I’ve been involved in politics.”

More than 170,000 people signed up to help Harris’s campaign in its first week, which brought in more than $200 million. Harrison said that Democrats are more likely to attack now that Harris is to the front of the ticket.

“Between our battleground states and non-battleground states, we have over 1,100 staff across the country.” “We have more than 200 offices in fight states,” he said. “By the way, our red state program also helps states that aren’t battlegrounds but where we think we can be competitive. That’s what’s happening right now.”

“I haven’t seen this much energy on the ground since Barack Obama in 2008,” he said. “And I want everyone to know not to sleep on Florida or North Carolina—we will have the people there to win those close races.”

While Biden was running for office, polls showed that the president was way behind former President Trump in areas like Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia. Now that Harris is at the top of the Democratic ticket, new polls show that the vice president is close to winning some of those states.

It’s not just Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) who thinks Harris will win in the South. He told MSNBC earlier Sunday that he thinks the vice president will win Georgia.

“She quickly made the Democratic Party support her candidacy. She sees the momentum in this race against former President Trump, and she’s inspiring volunteers and Democrats at the local level across the country,” he said. “She made Georgia a player.”

In polls, Harris has done much better than Biden among young people, Black voters, and Hispanic voters. These are important groups that could decide states like Arizona and Georgia that are close.

Democrats quickly came together behind Harris, and her campaign has already secured enough pledged delegates to essentially lock up the party’s nomination. No one else has challenged Harris for the vote, and her campaign has broken many records for raising money as it tries to make up for being late.

A lot of people are now interested in who Harris will choose as her vice presidential running mate, even though polls show that Harris is doing better than Biden against Trump.
