The Prosecutor Bit the Man in the Middle Finger Who Honked at Him for Not Moving When the Light Was Green Police
It is said that an Ohio prosecutor bit off a man’s finger during a road rage incident that started when the victim honked his car horn at the county attorney. The prosecutor was fired.
Authorities told Law&Crime that Christopher Murray, who used to be an assistant prosecutor for Greene County, is being investigated and was fired a week after the alleged attack.
A police report seen by Law&Crime says the alleged violent event happened around 12:30 a.m. on June 30, 2024, when the Riverside Police Department was called to a report of a “fight in progress” on Woodman Drive at the overpass of U.S. Route 35, which is about 210 miles southwest of Cleveland, Ohio.
People walking by told the police more than once that “one of the subjects had the other in a headlock.”
The arrest report says, “Dispatch was told that one caller said there was a lot of blood and a finger had been bit off.”
A 43-year-old guy, later identified as the victim, was found standing outside of his parked car with “a lot of blood on him and the ground” when first responders got there. When it was found that the victim had had his “finger bitten off,” cops wrote, they called for help.
Law&Crime got pictures of the victim’s middle finger that showed it had been bit off near the distal interphalangeal joint.
He told the cops that he was stuck behind another car on Woodman Drive at a red light. The person hurt said that the car in front of him didn’t move when the light went green, so he “laid on his horn.”
The driver of that car, who was later named as Murray, got out and walked back to the victim’s car, where he is said to have told the victim he wanted to fight.
The victim said his car windows wouldn’t work, so he opened the driver’s side door. That’s when Murray is said to have “pulled it open and started to fight” the victim.
The victim told police that he “was able to get on top of [Murray], which is when he states [Murray] bit down on his finger.” “They tussled to the ground.”
The victim said Murray put his phone down on the ground and then got back in his car and drove off. The phone was put into “airplane mode” and kept as proof by the police.
The police said they found the victim’s missing middle finger under his parked car.
Riverside cops told Law&Crime that Murray has not been arrested yet because his case is still being looked at by a grand jury.
Attorney for Greene County, David D. Hayes, told Law&Crime that he didn’t find out about the accusations against his deputy for more than a week. When he did, he acted quickly.
Hayes said in an email, “As Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, I learned on July 8, 2024, that my employee Christopher Murray is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation in Montgomery County.” As of July 9, 2024, Murray has been on leave from his job as an Assistant Prosecutor in Greene County. Since July 9, 2024, he hasn’t been in the office or in court for my office. After giving it some thought, I fired Christopher Murray from his job with the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.
