The Sheriff’s Office in Florida Shares Video of an Interrogation of a Woman Who is Accused of Shooting Her Neighbor to Death Through a Door

A new questioning video shows Susan Lorincz, a woman from Florida, telling police that she heard her neighbor say she was going to kill her before she was arrested for shooting her dead through a closed door last year while they were arguing about their kids playing outside.

A 58-year-old white woman named Lorincz is charged with manslaughter with a firearm and attack for shooting and killing her Black neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Owens, who was at her door on June 2, 2023. Investigators say that Lorincz got mad because Owens’ kids and other kids in the area were playing near her house.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released the tape on Monday. During the nearly two-hour interrogation, Lorincz told the detectives over and over that she was afraid for her life during the incident and that Owens had told her, “I’m going to kill you.”

“I just remember being scared that she was banging and screaming and just, I just remember hearing her say, ‘I’m going to kill you,'” Lorincz tells police, which is also what the case affidavit says.

“I was scared for my life.” To be honest, I was scared she would come in that door. I’m sorry. That’s how I felt. I can’t change how I felt. “I mean, I was scared to death,” Lorincz says.

Detectives tell Lorincz that no one they talked to about Owens had said anything about her wanting to kill Lorincz.

One detective is heard on the video telling Lorincz, “These people said that she was telling you to come outside.” “She wanted to talk to you about something, so she called you outside.”

Before the killing, Owens’ family told CNN that Lorincz made fun of Owens and her kids and used racist slurs around them. An arrest document says Lorincz admitted using racial slurs against kids in the neighborhood in the past.

Police asked Lorincz if she knew anything about Florida’s rules on self-defense and “stand your ground.” She said she did, saying she had looked into it earlier that day after seeing “they had it up on Facebook.”

You may think I looked at the rules to find a way to do something. “No,” Lorincz tells the police.

Detectives tell Lorincz that her actions on the day of the killing did not make sense before they arrested her.

Based on what I’ve seen, it’s not good enough for you to justify shooting through a locked door with a gun, OK? One of the cops asks, “Do you know that what you did wasn’t reasonable?” because the shot that killed Owens happened only two minutes after Lorincz hung up the phone with the dispatcher after calling 911 and asking for help.

They say, “Two minutes, but I thought it was much longer.”

At the end of the questioning, Lorincz is given the chance to write Owens’ kids a note, which she does while she waits for the cops to come back.

When the deputies come back to take Lorincz to jail, the tape shows that she refuses to be arrested at first, saying over and over, “I can’t do this” and “I don’t care.” Kill me!” She stands up in the end and is handcuffed.
