The wrong-way motorist in the incident that killed a Vegas police officer was in the US illegally ICE
According to statements made by federal officials to local media sources, the motorist who was responsible for the death of an off-duty Las Vegas police officer earlier this month was in the United States illegally.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal stated that on December 12, Fernando Jimenez-Jimenez, 31, drove a Ford F150 in the incorrect direction on the northbound side of Interstate 15. As a result, he collided with the Toyota Corolla driven by Officer Colton Pulsipher, 29, of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). Both of the males passed away.
Jimenez-Jimenez, a Mexican citizen, entered the United States twice in 2019, “and was returned to Mexico on an order of expedited removal,” a representative for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement told a local FOX5 news station.
Jimenez-Jimenez submitted his application for entry into the United States with Customs and Border Protection in Brownsville, Texas, in January of 2020. However, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), he was ordered to be deported in December of 2021 by an immigration judge.
At the time of the collision, Jimenez-Jimenez was transporting both alcoholic beverages and marijuana containers, according to the Nevada State Police, who spoke with FOX5. There is a wait for the toxicology results.
“Where he worked tirelessly to protect and serve our community,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) wrote on Facebook. Pulsipher had been with the department since 2017, and he was assigned to the traffic bureau of the visitor safety division. When the collision occurred, he was on his way home after his shift had ended.
LVMPD posted a statement on Facebook stating that he is survived by his wife and three young children.
A following post on the department’s website featured images taken at the memorial service held on December 18 in Moapa, the city in which he resided.
“Officer Pulsipher served with courage, integrity, and dedication, always putting the safety of others before his own,” according to the LVMPD official website. Have a peaceful rest, Officer Pulsipher. From this vantage point, we have it under control.
