Three Children Who Were Alone at Home When a Fire Broke Out Outside a Family Home in Washington Were Rescued by Neighbors
The youngsters were reportedly stuck inside the Mount Vernon home when the neighbors noticed them hammering on a glass on June 3. As a result, the neighbors acted quickly.
After saving three children from a blazing house in Washington last month, neighbors are being praised as heroes.
According to local CBS affiliate KIRO, the three kids were inside their Skagit Valley Mobile Manor home in Mount Vernon when the fire started on June 3.
According to a GoFundMe account launched by the kids’ aunt Marcelina Hilario, the children, who are aged 5, 8, and 12, were trapped in their burning house while their parents were at work.
According to KIRO, eight-year-old Archibaldo remembered hearing “popping things outside” before noticing smoke coming into the house. It was challenging to flee, he claimed, as the fire started “right by the front door” outdoors.
He recalled, “I told my sister to come in the room so we can be safe and ask for some help.”
Shortly after, neighbors spotted the kids hammering on a glass that faced the front, according to KIRO.
Archibaldo’s father, Aurelio Ortiz, stated that the children were saved from the house by the neighbors after they “broke the window.”
It’s unclear if the kids were hurt in any way.
According to Hilario, the fire “took 2 hours to completely extinguish,” and the family lost everything.
Hilario stated in the GoFundMe, “We feared that everything, including the children, had been consumed by the fire.” She continued by praising the neighbors for their “rapid actions.”
She went on, “This terrifying experience has devastated our family.” “We never thought we would experience such a tragedy, and we are currently trying to figure out how to help our family start over in their new lives.”
The family house will need to be rebuilt in a year, but for now, Ortiz is simply grateful that his kids made it through the trauma alive, according to KIRO.
“Everything is material; we can restart and fix anything, you know. However, my children are the most important thing, the father said.
Through the family’s GoFundMe page, more than $2,400 has been raised to support their post-fire recovery.
Ortiz said to KIRO, “I have to start from zero.”
