Some people’s complaints regarding scratch marks and discoloration on the seats of recently installed Toto Washlet bidet toilets went popular on social media.
A representative from the firm went into detail about why the Washlet seats use plastic resin.
The company uses the present resin because it is resistant to detergents and can be easily shaped into complicated forms, the representative told the Mainichi Shimbun.

The salesperson went on to say that using toilet paper to wipe the seats over and over again leaves little scratches that, when they grow, collect dirt and eventually discolor the material.
Instead of using toilet paper, the business suggested using damp, gentle cloths with diluted dishwashing soap to clean the seats.
However, “there are no plans to change the material at this time.” The Toto spokesperson did mention that the business is looking into plastic resin alternatives that could be more scratch-resistant.
