The fire department says that early Monday morning, they were on a fast-moving boat that crashed into a bridge in the Florida Keys. Three people, including a child, were taken to hospitals on the mainland by helicopter.

Kristen Livengood, a spokesperson for Monroe County Fire Rescue, said that four other people on the boat were taken to nearby hospitals.

At around 2 a.m., Livengood told the Miami Herald, the Sea Hunter center console hit the South Pine Channel Bridge, which links Middle Torch Key to Ramrod Key in the Lower Keys. It was going very fast.

Livengood said that firefighters were the first ones to arrive and had to use poles on the old bridge to get to the people on the boat and save them before it sank.

Livengood said that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sent officers and a boat from TowBoat US, a company that tows boats, to the scene of the accident.

Before the crash on Monday, a man was spearfishing off the Lower Keys on Friday afternoon when he was hit and died, and on Saturday, someone was badly hurt in a personal watercraft crash off Key West.
