Tragic Encounter: 81-Year-Old Florida Woman Fatally Shot by Deputy After Threatening Him with Knife!
CNS News– In a distressing turn of events in Sumter County, an 81-year-old woman, Janet Sours, was fatally shot by a deputy sheriff late Monday night. This tragic incident unfolded at the Rails End Mobile Home Park in Wildwood, following a 911 call Sours made around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office reported that Sours was experiencing a severe mental episode during the call, claiming that “people were dying over here.” This alarming statement prompted emergency personnel to cautiously stage the area until it could be secured.
Upon their arrival, deputies endeavored to assess and calm the situation. However, the encounter took a harrowing turn when Sours, seemingly distressed, suddenly produced a knife and lunged at one of the officers. Faced with immediate danger, the deputy was compelled to take defensive action.
Retreating while drawing his service weapon, the deputy shot Sours, an action deemed necessary under the rapidly escalating threat. Despite prompt life-saving measures administered by rescue personnel, Sours was critically injured and rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead before 1 a.m.
