Trump Loses 18-Point Lead in Iowa, A State He Dominated in 2016 and 2020

A stunning survey released on Sunday revealed that a state former President Donald Trump may have thought was safe is now very much in play.

According to a survey published in Sunday’s Des Moines Register by famous pollster Ann Selzer, Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris in the state by just four points, 47-43. Despite withdrawing from the race, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. remains at 6 percent in the polls. (Despite his campaign ending, he will still appear on the state ballot.)

In June, when President Joe Biden was still in the race, the same poll showed Trump with an 18-point lead. The former president had a whopping 50-32 edge over his successor, with RFK Jr. receiving 9% in that poll.

The latest survey can only be interpreted as a warning sign for the Trump campaign, given that the previous president carried the state by significant margins in both 2016 and 2020. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in Iowa by 9.5 points in 2016 and Biden by 9.2 points in 2020.

The Selzer poll revealed a significant gap between men’s and women’s preferences in the race. According to the poll, men support Trump 59-32, while women favor Harris 53-36.
