Two Killed in Lexington Traffic Incidents; One Driver Charged With Hit-and-run
The Lexington Police Department reported that two people were killed in separate collisions in Lexington on Monday night. The first crash occurred at 5:55 p.m. on Winchester Road, near Ashton Drive.
According to Lexington police Lt. Dillan Taylor, a pedestrian was struck by a car and pronounced dead at the scene. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Angelina Wells, 43, of Lexington.
She died of blunt force injuries, and her death was ruled an accident. The motorist remained at the site, and no charges are expected to be brought, Taylor said.
The second crash occurred around 11:10 p.m. on Richmond and Squires roads. Taylor described it as a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a motorbike.
The driver of the moped perished in the accident. The coroner’s office identified the rider as 47-year-old James Stamper from Paris. Stamper died as a result of an accident while riding a moped, according to the coroner’s office.
Logan Rogers, 21, was charged later Tuesday with leaving the scene of an accident/failure to offer aid, which resulted in death or serious bodily injury. Police’s real-time intelligence center identified Rogers as the other driver engaged in the hit-and-run.
Rogers is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.
Rogers was accused in October of running a red light in Harrodsburg, according to court records. He was additionally charged with not wearing a seat belt, failing to show an insurance card, and failing to maintain the requisite insurance.
Lexington has had 28 fatal collisions this year as of November 7, according to Kentucky State Police data.
