Orangeburg County, South Carolina — Two South Carolina State University students are among only 110 students globally chosen as 2024 HBCU White House Scholars.

Alexis Day and Aaron Smith join two other SC State students who previously received the honor, increasing the school’s total number of HBCU White House Scholars to four.

SC State President Alexander Conyers stated that the two students exemplify Bulldog principles.

Day is a biology/chemistry major specializing in oncology from Columbus, Georgia. She stated that she was incredibly honored to be chosen.

“The commitment of the university to nurturing and celebrating the achievements of its students is truly inspiring,” according to Day. “Being recognized through this esteemed program is a pleasure and a duty that I fully embrace.

Smith is a senior physical activity management major from Manning, South Carolina. He has a total GPA of 3.8 and plays football for the Bulldogs.

“It is a prestigious honor to be selected as a 2024 White House HBCU Scholar to represent the illustrious South Carolina State University,” Smith told reporters. “I am truly grateful. I’m also grateful for the contacts and bonds I’ve formed with many academics and staff, enabling me to suggest and submit my name for prominent opportunities like this.
