Police say that an elementary school administrator in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, was arrested after reportedly assaulting a 5-year-old student.

Misty Kelley, 52, is an assistant principal at Spotswood Elementary School. On August 28, she was charged with assault and battery by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office on social media.

According to a report on August 28, a staff member had reportedly abused a 5-year-old girl at the elementary school. This is when the sheriff’s office first learned of the problem.

Officials said that the child’s mother said that when her child came home from school, there were bruises on the back and shoulders.

A child told her mother that an adult at school grabbed her because she didn’t want to walk when her mother asked about the injuries.

The sheriff’s office said that an investigation showed that Kelley was the adult who reportedly grabbed and hurt the child.

It was August 28, and the sheriff’s office called the central administration office of Spotsylvania County Public Schools to talk about it. That same day, Kelley was put on administrative leave.
