Winter Weather Advisory in Central Nebraska: Up to 2 Inches of Snow Possible

0

Hastings, NE – Breezy winds and light snowfall are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across central Nebraska tonight. Drivers are urged to prepare for low visibility and slippery roads as winter weather impacts intensify.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, winds from the northwest will gust between 35 and 45 mph in several areas. The strongest winds will occur west of Highway 281 and could continue overnight at speeds of 25–35 mph. Breezy conditions, combined with falling snow, are likely to reduce visibility, particularly during the evening commute.

Snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, at 1 inch or less across much of the region. However, areas under a Winter Weather Advisory in northeast Nebraska could see accumulations of up to 2 inches. The most significant impacts will occur after 6 p.m., when snow and wind conditions will peak.

The NWS advises travelers to exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to blowing and drifting snow. Reduced visibility and slick roads could result in delays and potential accidents. Motorists should plan for longer travel times and avoid unnecessary trips if conditions worsen.

This winter weather follows a pattern of cold temperatures and strong winds across the Midwest. Residents are reminded to stay updated on forecasts and avoid exposure to freezing winds.

Emergency officials encourage everyone to carry winter survival kits in vehicles, including blankets, flashlights, and non-perishable food. Preparedness will ensure safety during this unpredictable weather.
