Shocking Incident: Teen Migrant Accused After Florida Deputy’s Fatal Heart Attack During Fight!
CNS News–A complex and heart-wrenching incident unfolded in St. Augustine, Florida, where Virgilio Aguilar-Mendez, an 18-year-old migrant from Guatemala, now faces manslaughter charges following a confrontation that led to the death of St. Johns County Sergeant Michael Kunovich.
The encounter, which occurred in the parking lot of a Super 8 motel on the evening of May 16, escalated from a routine inquiry into a physical struggle, culminating in the tragic heart attack and subsequent death of Sgt. Kunovich.
Aguilar-Mendez, who entered the U.S. illegally last year, was approached by Kunovich for allegedly trespassing on the motel property. The situation quickly intensified, with Aguilar-Mendez reportedly fearing deportation and attempting to disengage from the encounter.
Despite being tased multiple times, Aguilar-Mendez resisted arrest and, at one point, managed to arm himself with a folding pocket knife before being subdued and handcuffed by arriving officers. The incident has sparked a legal and civil rights debate, with Aguilar-Mendez’s attorney, Philip Arroyo, asserting that his client’s civil rights were violated and that the charges represent a grave injustice.
