The situation escalated from a misunderstanding involving the purchase of bananas to alleviate Joseph’s cramping due to an infection. Anjelica recounts her father being followed and falsely accused of theft by a store employee, leading to a heated exchange that attracted police attention.
Responding to the scene with a significant presence, police officers allegedly used excessive force during the arrest, ignoring Joseph’s pleas and medical distress, resulting in severe physical injury, including acute kidney damage necessitating dialysis. The subsequent police report contrasts with the family’s account, citing resistance and interference during an investigation as the reason for Joseph’s detainment.
