A Former Official in the GOP Tells the Harsh Truth to “Wailing” Trump Supporters
Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) told Republicans who are “gnashing and wailing” about the conviction of Donald Trump for hush money that they “can’t deny the facts” about the case against the former president.
Todd Duncan told CNN’s Laura Coates on Tuesday that Trump lied about having sex with Stormy Daniels, paid money to keep it quiet, and then kept lying about it until “a jury of his peers found him guilty” last week.
Duncan told MAGA Republicans the harsh truth after he said one thing about the 2024 race.
He said that the race will “come down to Republicans like me—Republicans who have been Republicans their whole lives, are conservative, and just don’t think Donald Trump is anywhere near fit to be president.”
Duncan went on, “It’s whether we’re going to stay at home and let it happen the way it will or whether we’re going to show up and do something about it.”
Duncan said that voting for Mr. Biden, who he has backed, is “a vote for nothing other than a GOP 2.0 if you’re a Republican like me.”
He said, “It gives us a chance to get rid of Donald Trump from our bodies as quickly and effectively as possible.” “It brings our party back to a place where we can start to solve real problems and work with Democrats on these enormous problems.”
Duncan upset Trump after the 2020 election by not supporting his claimed efforts to overturn his loss. Earlier this month, he wrote an opinion piece in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in which he announced his support for Biden.
Trump has “disqualified himself through his conduct and his character,” he wrote. “This November, I will vote for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass.”
