A Study Says That a City in the South of the Us Has the Most Deadly Car Crashes in the Whole Country

If you don’t want to get into a car accident, you might want to walk around Memphis instead of driving.

A study by the ConsumerAffairs research team found that the Tennessee city had the most fatal car crashes of any place in the U.S.

The scores were based in part on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) 2022 Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the NHTSA’s Crash Report Sampling System.

The ConsumerAffairs study has information on accidents involving cars, light trucks, SUVs, and vans that killed people and people who were hurt. The amount of car accidents per 100,000 people in a certain area was used to rank each city and state.

Of the 195 U.S. towns that were looked at, Memphis had the most deadly car accidents with 207 in 2022, which is 33.33 per 100,000 people. This is almost three times the national rate of 11.77 per 100,000 people.

“This finding may not surprise ConsumerAffairs readers, as Memphis was the top-ranked city in our worst drivers in America study last year,” the consumer news site said.

Ocala, Florida; Macon, Georgia; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Albany, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; Birmingham, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; and St. Louis, Missouri make up the end of the top 10.

Memphis had the most fatal crashes per 100,000 people, but it also had the sixth most fatal crashes overall in 2022. With 341, Los Angeles was at the top of that list. Houston, Phoenix, New York City, and Dallas were next.

On the other hand, Reading, Pennsylvania, had only 1.05 accidents per 100,000 people, making it the place with the lowest rate of car accidents in 2022.

“Reading was one of only four cities in the country that had just one fatal car accident all year.” “The other three were in Ames, Iowa; Passaic, New Jersey; and Iowa City, Iowa,” ConsumerAffairs said.

Crash rates per 100,000 people in New York City were low. It had 228 fatal crashes, which was the fourth most in the country, but that was still pretty low for a city with more than 8 million people, many of whom use public transportation.
