Debt Collection Law Firm Gets Over $650,000 from AG James for Harassing New Yorkers!
CNS News– New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a significant victory in holding a debt collection law firm accountable for its predatory practices. Tromberg, Morris, & Poulin, LLC (TMP), along with its subsidiary, Stephen Einstein & Associates, P.C. (SEA), has been ordered to pay more than $650,000 for filing frivolous lawsuits and exploiting vulnerable New Yorkers.
An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) revealed a pattern of abusive behavior by TMP and SEA, including the pursuit of unnecessary and costly lawsuits against tenants and consumers. The firms often sued individuals on behalf of landlords in the New York City Civil Court, disregarding prior resolutions in the Housing Court and burdening vulnerable New Yorkers with undue legal and financial stress.
Additionally, TMP was found to have unlawfully continued to pursue consumers for debts that had already been paid or partially paid, even resorting to wage garnishment for completed judgments. As a result of the settlement, TMP is required to pay restitution to more than 4,000 affected New Yorkers, along with penalties totaling $60,000.
