CheapNailsalonsnearmeIn a remarkable case that highlights the challenges of controlling criminal activities within prisons, Pedro Barragan Valencia, a member of the Sureños gang and an inmate at Calhoun State Prison, has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison. Known by aliases like “Casper,” “Bossman,” and “Mexican Hitman Pete,” Valencia was instrumental in orchestrating the distribution of a vast amount of controlled substances, including methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl, from within the prison walls.

Valencia’s operation was extensive, involving the distribution of at least 250 kilograms of methamphetamine, along with other drugs, to an armed drug trafficking organization. This operation was not only a significant source of these highly addictive and deadly substances in Georgia but also a stark example of the complexities law enforcement faces in curtailing drug distribution networks, especially when coordinated by individuals from within correctional facilities.

The sentence of 400 months (over 30 years) in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, handed down by U.S. District Judge Leslie Gardner, is a testament to the severity of Valencia’s crimes. His case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which employs a multi-agency approach to identify and dismantle high-level criminal organizations.

Leonard is also awaiting sentencing, with a potential maximum of life in prison. Alongside Valencia and Leonard, numerous co-defendants have been sentenced, showcasing the extensive reach of this drug trafficking network.

This case, with its numerous layers and wide-reaching implications, emphasizes the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies. Their collaborative approach has been crucial in bringing down this dangerous drug network and serves as a stark warning to others involved in similar illicit activities.
