Following the violent crime against two American tourists not far from Neuschwanstein Castle, the trial of a fellow countryman of the two victims began on Monday. The 31-year-old is facing charges of murder, rape resulting in death and attempted murder at Kempten District Court.

Philipp, hailing from Michigan in the US, also confessed to having child pornography, which authorities uncovered during their probe.

The two individuals encountered Troy Philipp near the Marienbrücke bridge – a well-known spot frequented by visitors to catch a glimpse of the castle.

He guided them to a concealed path, claiming that the route to the bridge was challenging to traverse. In a remote location, the man pushed the 21-year-old to the ground, committing heinous acts before the 22-year-old attempted to intervene.

After that, he forced the 22-year-old into the 50m deep (164ft) ravine and proceeded to attack her friend, strangling her with a belt and filming the incident.

After some hikers came across the scene,Philipp  then pushed the unconscious 21-year-old victim into the same ravine.

Rescuers found the women, but unfortunately, the 21-year-old woman passed away from her injuries in the hospital. The 22-year-old sustained multiple injuries but managed to survive.

Later that day, the suspect was apprehended following an extensive police search that included over 25 vehicles.

An observer from New York saw Philipp being apprehended and noted that his face had deep red scratch marks and his neck as well, indicating there was a struggle.

The names of the victims have not been disclosed in accordance with Germany’s privacy laws.
