Police Have Identified the 16-year-old Boy They Think Killed a Pregnant Woman in Dayton
Police are looking for a person they think shot and killed a teenage boy and a pregnant woman in Dayton.
News Center 7 said the shooting happened in the 1400 block of Shaftesbury Road just before 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said that the victims were Precious Taste, 32, and Deante Johnson, 16.
In a Thursday evening update, Dayton Police Major Brian Johns said that Taste was four months pregnant when she was killed. This was shown on News Center 7 at 6:00.
I can’t even begin to imagine what the mother, her family, and her friends are going through, Johns said.
Nicole Cunigan Jr., also known as Nico, was named by police as the suspect. He used to date Taste and is the father of her twin 4-year-old children. He is also thought to be the father of the child she was carrying.
Cunigan is said to have gone to the house on Shaftesbury Road twice on Wednesday morning. He and Taste had a fight the first time. He reportedly left and came back around 6 a.m. with a gun.
Police think he got in through a side window and shot Johnson, a family friend, right away. Then he went to Tase’s house and shot her while their kids were there.
Cunigan left the house in a white Chevy Malibu, which was found in Trotwood later on.
Investigators said this wasn’t the first time Cungian and Taste had a fight. He was already on probation from 2022 because he stabbed her.
Cunigan is still being sought by police. People should be careful if they see him because he is thought to be armed and dangerous.
The woman he shot was pregnant with his child and had been his girlfriend for a long time. “He killed her,” Johns said. “That means he will kill anyone if he does that.”
