A former police officer is on trial for killing a young girl and dumping her body in the woods. Prosecutors say he did searches on the internet that showed evidence against him.

People previously reported that Miles Bryant was caught in February 2023 in Gwinnett County, Ga., on charges that he moved the body of Susana Morales, 16, six months after the teen went missing. He has since been charged with murder and kidnapping, according to jail records.

A story from 11Alive says that Bryant’s defense team will not be presenting any more evidence in his trial starting on June 12.

News from 11Alive and WSB-TV says that during the trial, several searches that authorities say Bryant did were shown. These searches included “how long does it take for a body to decompose?” and “How are you id by dental records?”

prosecutors say that Bryant was named as the person who killed Morales after his gun was found near her bones, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

11Alive says that Bryant refused to appear in his own defense, and his lawyers did not call any witnesses during the trial.

People said that Morales was reported missing on July 26, 2022, when she didn’t come home after calling her mother to say she was on her way.

Her body parts weren’t found until February 6, when someone walking by saw them in the woods.

On the day he was caught, Bryant was working as a police officer in Doraville. In a statement made after Bryant was arrested, the police said that he was a former officer.

“The City of Doraville and its Police Department are fully cooperating with the Gwinnett Police Department in its investigation of Mr. Bryant,”the statement said. “Our prayers rest with the family and friends of Susana Morales and everyone else affected by this tragedy.”

Morales’ family set up a GoFundMe page that got over $23,000.
