Younger Brother trapped inside stolen car while felling away with older brother
A person who lives in Purcell said it was amazing that the two teenage boys who crashed their car in her front yard while trying to get away from cops were still alive.
At 1:43 a.m. on Friday, Purcell Police said an officer tried to stop the car on Green Avenue because it was going too fast. Assistant Police Chief James Bolling said the driver lost control of the car, hit several utility poles, and crashed on its roof in the front yard of a South Canadian Avenue home because it wouldn’t stop. The speed reached about 70 miles per hour. “It’s heartbreaking to see, you know, young juveniles not understanding the dangers of vehicle and speed,” stated Bolling.
Clara Bacon owned the front yard where the suspect’s car crashed. She said the crash woke her up while she was asleep. “It sounded like a freight train hitting my vehicles in my yard,” Bacon said. “I really was afraid the car was going to explode or something the way it was smoking so bad.”
Police later found out that the boy who was driving the wrecked car was 16 years old. There was a 13-year-old boy stuck in the car when the teen suspect got out and ran away from the police officer. “They had to pull on the door quite a bit to get him out,” stated Bacon.
Police said the 16-year-old suspect didn’t get very far, though. “We received several phone calls the next hour and a half or so of him trying to knock on doors, trying to get into contact with people,” stated Bolling. “Eventually, a McClain County deputy came in contact with the subject.”
The teen suspect was caught by the officer on Apache Street, a few blocks from the scene of the crash.
Days after the accident, the suspect’s car’s path of damage could be seen clearly. A broken mailbox, utility poles that fell over, power lines that went down, and pieces of the car that were spread out over several yards were among the damage.
In spite of everything, the two boys were not badly hurt. Bacon said the suspect’s younger brother was able to walk to an ambulance at the scene of the crime. “Angels were with them, them two boys because a wreck this bad – for both of them to walk away and not be no more hurt than what they were – they are very lucky children,” said Bacon.
