CNS News–A federal appeals court has issued a significant ruling regarding the floating barrier on the Rio Grande, which has been a point of contention between the Biden administration and Texas Governor Greg Abbott. In a reversal of a previous decision, the court has allowed Texas to keep the barrier in place for now.
In December, a divided panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals initially ruled that the buoys used in the barrier had to be moved. This decision had drawn backlash from Mexico. However, on Wednesday, the court vacated the panel’s 2-1 ruling after a majority of its 17 active judges voted to rehear the case.
The barrier, consisting of linked, concrete-anchored buoys stretching roughly the length of three soccer fields, was installed along the international border with Mexico between the Texas border city of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila. This legal dispute over the border control measures, including the floating barrier, represents an ongoing battle between Democratic President Joe Biden and Governor Greg Abbott.

The Biden administration has also been advocating for changes at the border, including the removal of razor-wire fencing and access to a city park at the border that the state has fenced off. This decision by the federal appeals court marks a significant development in the ongoing struggle for control over migration and border security in the region.
