Steve Scalise Claims Tik Tok Aids Chinese Border Crossings!
CNS News– Chinese nationals crossing U.S. borders have increased in recent months, according to Customs and Border Protection. Over 5,000 Chinese migrants crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in December, a record. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) discussed a 60 Minutes piece regarding Chinese people using TikTok to help cross borders on Fox & Friends earlier this month.
“Over 30,000 Chinese nationals came across, and they’re using TikTok, which is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party,” Scalise. “So if anybody wonders where this is coming from, all the countries, we’ve documented well over 150 countries where people come across our border.”
“This isn’t just South and Central America, it’s Middle Eastern countries, it’s China, it’s other Asian nations, all coming into America untethered, without any vetting at all,” Scalise said. TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, has frequently said the company is independent, but the truth is murkier.
ByteDance, TikTok’s parent business, is independent of the Chinese government. ByteDance executives are aware of the “disappearing,” of company executives who criticize China. In 2020, Alibaba founder Jack Ma was nearly among them. A fair trial is unlikely with a Chinese Communist Party in charge of the legal and judicial institutions, and free speech is severely restricted.

TikTok may be trying to disassociate itself from the Chinese government, but the CCP has a long history of using private Chinese enterprises as political arms. The CCP has pushed firms to spy and censor in China, the U.S., and other areas of interest. CBS News’ 60 Minutes stated that Chinese migrants are utilizing Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, to acquire border crossing methods.
The Senate is likely to start bipartisan border security talks this week, but House Republicans are pessimistic. Longtime GOP lawmaker Scalise said it’s likely to be “dead on arrival.” To protect Ukraine from Russian invasion, the border accord includes increased border security and foreign aid.
The death of Russian opposition leader Alexi Navalny makes it a more pressing national security concern. Before his death, Navalny was one of the Kremlin’s most vociferous critics and the most likely Putin successor, despite his dismal record with Ukranians.

In addition to border security, Republicans have sought to prohibit TikTok over claims that it is controlled by the Chinese Community Party. Shou Chew and other internet leaders like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before Congress in front of families of kids sexually exploited on social media.
