Kara Banks, serving as the assistant to the city administrator, elucidated that the program’s inception was motivated by a desire to offer aid to seniors residing in Edgerton, identified as one of the community’s most susceptible segments.

The program is anticipated to offer substantial assistance to those deemed most in need.

This program is designed to offer property tax rebates to senior individuals on fixed incomes.

Eligibility for the property tax rebate program extends to senior citizens aged 65 or older who own their own homes, possess valid identification, and have consistently paid their property taxes on time.

The program is scheduled to operate annually from January 20 to September, providing much-needed financial assistance to qualified participants.

By alleviating financial burdens and ensuring the ability to age comfortably in their own homes, this property tax rebate program aims to support seniors in maintaining their independence and preserving their overall quality of life.

Advocates Call for Enhanced Property Tax Rebates

State legislators are advocating for the enhanced property tax rebate program.

This program is intended for qualifying individuals, including residents aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and above, and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and older.

To apply for the property tax rebate program, applicants must demonstrate payment of property taxes from the year 2023 or submit a signed renters certificate.

Additionally, complimentary assistance is available for individuals requiring support with the application process for the property tax rebate program.
