Elon Musk Faces a $128 Million Severance Lawsuit Filed by Former Twitter Executives!

CNS NewsFormer Twitter employees are suing Elon Musk for $128 million in unpaid retirement pay. The suit by former employees, including former CEO Parag Agrawal, comes after another lawsuit filed by workers wanting $500 million. Elon Musk is being sued for $128 million by four former Twitter leaders who say he didn’t pay them their severance pay after he bought the social network.

The lawsuit was filed on Monday in California. It comes after a separate lawsuit filed last year by regular workers asking for $500 million in unpaid severance. The suit says, “Because Musk decided he didn’t want to pay Plaintiffs’ severance benefits, he fired them without a reason, then made up a fake reason and chose employees from his different companies to uphold his decision.”

Four people are suing Twitter: Parag Agrawal, who used to be CEO, Ned Segal, who used to be CFO, Sean Edgett, who used to be general counsel, and Vijaya Gadde, who used to be chief legal officer. After buying Twitter for $44bn in 2022, Musk fired all of them as part of a wave of mass layoffs.

At the time, he said he didn’t have to pay the execs severance because they were fired for cause. “Cause” is not “business choices approved by the board that Musk doesn’t like,” the complaint says. “In his letters of termination, he said that each Plaintiff had shown “gross negligence” and “willful wrongdoing,” but he didn’t provide any evidence to back up this claim.”

Musk and X haven’t said anything about the case in public. The lawyer Alex Spiro, who often represents Musk in court, did not respond right away to a request for comment. The lawsuit is one of many legal moves that have been brought against Musk for taking over Twitter without permission and running the platform afterward, after which he changed its name to X.

Earlier this year, the National Labor Relations Board also said that Musk’s SpaceX rocket company fired eight workers illegally because they wrote a letter attacking his leadership. Musk told the BBC last year that he fired about 80% of Twitter’s staff after taking over the company.

Since Musk bought the site, it has had a lot of problems. For example, ad revenue has been going down, and researchers have found that hate speech has increased since Musk slowed down efforts to moderate material. At first, he tried to back out of the deal, but Twitter sued to make him finish it.

Musk says that anti-hate groups that released reports about racist and extremist content on the site are to blame for the drop in ad revenue. He sued two of the groups, Media Matters and the Center for Countering Digital Hate, and the cases are still going on. This week, a judge in California will decide if the suit against the Center For Countering Digital Hate should be thrown out.
