Tragedy Struck: A Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash that Blocked I-95 for Hours Has Been Repaired!

The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m., causing a four-mile stretch of the interstate to be closed for several hours, according to state police reports. Chopper footage captured over I-95 near the Bridesburg area depicted extensive delays and closures in both directions.

Commuters, like Amanda Lear from Port Richmond, found themselves stuck in lengthy traffic jams, with delays far exceeding expectations. “It said 48 minutes to get home. I live in Port Richmond, and it was not 48 minutes, because I spent 48 minutes going like two miles,” Lear lamented.

The victims, identified as two men from Philadelphia aged 20 and 22, lost their lives in the collision. Authorities have not released their identities pending further investigation. In the aftermath of the crash, I-95 northbound was shut down from Castor Avenue to Cottman Avenue, while southbound lanes were closed from Cottman Avenue to the Betsy Ross Bridge.

All sections of the highway were reopened at approximately 11 a.m., approximately eight hours after the initial collision. Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the incident, which involved three vehicles. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear.

As emergency crews and law enforcement officers worked to clear the scene, commuters faced significant challenges navigating through the aftermath. Mark Taylor of West Berlin, New Jersey, described the scene akin to rush hour, while Carlo Baffa of Springfield, PA, highlighted the challenges posed by detours and congested routes.
