Hilton Head Firefighters Illuminate Two Decades of Holiday Magic!
Giving holiday cheer in this week’s Lowcountry. Watch WJCL to get a sneak peek at a unique light show that you can see on Hilton Head Island. For twenty years, firemen on Hilton Head have been putting up Christmas lights on the island. “What drives us is seeing happy faces as people drive around the station,” said Bryan Scharver, captain paramedic at Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue.
More than 200 hours of work went into making Fire Station 3’s lights, Nativity scene, and inflatables. She said, “We start at the beginning of October and hope to finish right before Thanksgiving.” We expect 12,000 cars to drive through this season.
Santa Claus himself came out to help open the lights, where he posed for pictures and ate cookies with the people. “It makes you think of the past. It takes your mind off of some of the holiday stress, and seeing happy faces is what Christmas is all about, Scharver said.
From now until New Year’s Day, you can see this beautiful scene for free. You can also help the Deep Well Project by giving a gift that hasn’t been opened or a can of food. Donations are very helpful for families who might not be able to buy things for their children or other family members.
Scharver also said, “Deep Well helps when they step in and give that family some gifts for their kids that they might not have had for the Holidays.” Letters to Santa can also be sent to fire stations all over Beaufort County. Any stop close to you will let you drop off your letter. Make sure to include your return address so that the North Pole can send you a letter back.
