The NYPD has released surveillance footage capturing the suspect at the station, wielding two cans ablaze as he stands near the turnstile. Descriptions provided by authorities characterize the suspect as a 35-year-old man, approximately 6 feet tall, with a dark complexion, and brown eyes, weighing 156 pounds.
He was last seen donning a gray hooded sweatshirt beneath a black jacket, black pants, and black sandals. Efforts to apprehend the perpetrator are underway, with the NYPD urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist in their investigation.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of ensuring public safety within the city’s sprawling transit system. In response to escalating concerns over subway safety, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the deployment of New York National Guard troops and State Police troopers into the subway system.
